ICC unwilling to lay ground for BCCI’s Champions T20

Thursday, July 17, 2008

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) plan to host the Champions T20 seems to be on a sticky wicket. The tournament, which was planned on the lines of the blockbuster Indian Premier League (IPL), is yet to receive clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is slated to take place in October.

Insiders tell ET that the Champions T20 is also facing opposition from the English Cricket Board (ECB). “Although the Cricket Board of Australia is supposed to be a part of the tournament, the members of the foreign boards are worried about BCCI becoming an even bigger cricketing power than it already is, and hence don’t want the tournament to happen,” they said.
